About The Pierre Part Store

The Pierre Part Store has a grocery department (grocery, produce, deli and an in-store bakery) as well as a full-service hardware and lumber department which includes everything you need to build a home from the ground up. The Pierre Part Store's modest beginning started in 1911 by it's founders, Honore St. Germain, Sr and Alcee Fournerette. The original Pierre Part Store location was at Pierre Part Bay.

In the early days much of the business was conducted on a credit basis. People were given a slip of paper telling them how much their moss was worth. They could then in turn use this paper to purchase products at the store. The small country-like store served the shopping needs of fishermen and moss pickers and was a gathering place for the community.

The growing community created a need for more merchandise in the store. This growth also started to cause problems. There was no more room in the store to place new merchandise. Additional problems included no more parking space for the customers as well as space for unloading freight. The solution to this problem was relocation. In 1968 the store moved from its old location at Pierre Part Bay to its present location on Highway 70. The new location allowed for more merchandise to be offered and more room for customers to shop in comfort. The new location also eliminated the parking problem that was present at the previous location. In addition, in 1968 Honore St. Germain, Jr. was joined by his son-in-law, Logi Guilliot, and his two sons, Gerald and Kenneth St. Germain.

The atmosphere of the Pierre Part Store is the same today as it was when it first opened over 95 years ago; pleasant and country like. Customers could find almost anything they were looking for as well as visit with their friends while shopping. After operating from this location for about fifteen years, the same problems that existed at the previous location started to arise at its current location. Because of the concern for the needs of the customers and the rapid growth of the community, the owner knew the growing pains for the store were starting again.

In February of 1985 new additions to the store began.  The additions joined to the existing building would offer customers over 50,000 square feet of shopping area.  This addition would provide enough room for merchandise displays, more variety of existing merchandise, and a larger selection of new merchandise.  The addition was completed in early fall and opened November 16. 1985.

Although the store has moved and enlarged, it is still the Pierre Part Store -- a potpourri pleasure place where you can walk through the front door and find just about everything you could want under one roof.  Through all the changes that time and progress have brought, it still remains a country store that offers customers a chance to browse around comfortably.
